I've visited with over a million young readers over the years--let's add to that wonderful number!
Here's all the information you need in order to book me for an author visit:
Length of visit
one hour, including question-time at the beginning of the visit.
4-8; high school presentations also available
Time of day
Mornings only (one or two presentations per visit, usually either side of morning recess)
Each title listed below is available as a one-hour presentation.
Only one title is covered during a one-hour session..
During a half-day visit two different titles can be presented.
Power-point presentations are available for these topics:
--NEW (2017) The Vimy Oaks: A Journey to Peace (the true story of a First World War soldier and his contributions to the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge--Note: 2017 is also Canada's 150 anniversary!)
--Pasta: A Closer Look at a Delicious Subject (how to do interesting research)
--The Road to Afghanistan (a touching look at our veterans of long ago--and today)
--John Gillespie Magee Jr. and the Path to "High Flight" (teen Second World War pilot's life and times)
--The Unknown Soldier (WHO are 'the unknowns' honoured around the world?)
--John McCrae: Behind the Legend (First World War and "In Flanders Fields")
Historical/archival items are brought along for examination and discussion.
Usually 75-100 students and adults per one-hour session. Please allow all member of a split-grade class to attend, even if one grade level is not Gr. 4-8.
In the school library, rather than the gymnasium, please. It's a matter of echoing--the kids and me!
A power-point projector and pointer, a laptop computer, a screen, table, and glass of water. (I bring the presentations on a memory stick.)
I will provide wordsearch sheets and additional materials that may be photocopied for the class, school, or library clients.
Please contact me at lindagranfield at sympatico dot ca for fee information.
I will do my best to accommodate your budget and needs.
Please check with The Writers’ Union of Canada and the Canada Council for possible assistance with fee and travel financial aid. (Please allow plenty of time to arrange this aid as applications must be made well in advance of the author visit.)
I live in the Toronto (Ontario, Canada) area, but have traveled across Canada and the United States to visit schools, libraries, and museums for presentations. Please contact me—distance need not be a problem. Schools often pool their resources for a visit, and again, funding is often available.
Please plan ahead, especially if you would like an author visit for Remembrance/Veterans Day. I am often booked a year in advance for November, BUT sometimes there are cancellations closer to the date of the visit, and then I may be able to accommodate your school.
I believe that “Every Day Is Remembrance/Veterans Day” and am pleased to visit your school to discuss our veterans and their contributions ANY time of the year.
Please feel free to invite members of your local Legion to share the school visit with the students. The veterans are pleased to be invited to attend.
Parents and home-schooled students are also welcome to attend my presentations.
